Baby acne is a common concern for new parents who may not be entirely sure what is wrong with their baby. Baby acne is one of the types of acne that generally appears as little red bumps, not unlike a rash, all over your baby’s cheeks. It does not have to remain on the cheeks however. It is also often present all over his or her face. While your baby may have been born with infant acne, most children do not develop it until they are a few weeks to 3 or 4 months of age.
You do not want to resort to adult zit remedies as a solution, because these types of treatments will be much too harsh for your baby’s sensitive skin. The best cure for baby acne is time, it does usually go away all on it’s own, but in the meantime, you should still cleanse your baby’s face daily-once a day with water and some gentle baby soap is enough.
Another thing to consider if your baby has a “baby acne rash”, is the way you launder the child’s clothes. You may want to switch to the mildest detergent available. When your child’s skin is irritated from acne it can be much more sensitive to detergents and other soaps.
The good news is that we’ve found if you wait it out, infant acne will go away on its own so the majority of baby acne remedies are not needed. Baby acne is often just a phase that your baby’s skin is going through.
